Nepal uses the Nepalese rupee. NTB lists currency-exchange services at banks and airport counters, and card acceptance at major tourism businesses. Ask each business which payment methods it accepts.
- Use an authorised exchange service and check the displayed rate, commission and amount you will receive before agreeing.
- Keep exchange receipts. They can be relevant if you want to exchange unused rupees before departure; ask the bank about its current requirements.
- Confirm ATM and card charges with your bank. Check the machine or payment terminal for additional fees before approving a transaction.
- For a journey outside your base town, ask about payment options in advance and plan a modest cash reserve. Carry smaller denominations for small purchases.
