A useful trip leaves local places and communities better supported. Plan how you will handle rubbish, use resources and respect the areas you visit.
- Use designated paths, stopping places and campsites. Avoid creating shortcuts through vegetation.
- Carry a small bag for your own rubbish and take it to an appropriate disposal point. Do not leave it behind where collection is unavailable.
- Choose locally owned accommodation and services when they meet your needs. Respect the customs of your hosts.
- Reduce demand for firewood. Use shared heated spaces where available instead of requesting separate fires.
- Keep washing and toilet arrangements away from water sources and follow the rules of the site you are visiting.
- Discuss environmental expectations with your group before departure, so everyone follows the same approach.
